Mount Kinabalu Expedition ( My second expedition in year 2014)
During my university days, I was thinking of
going on an expedition to Sabah to conquer Mount Kina Balu. Everything happened
so fast, as though it has been planned.
Just few years after Im back from my long house stay from Sarawak, in few moths
I was asked by the education officer to write a research a paper for the coming
national level research colloquium, which will be held in Ipoh. Before that,
few months earlier there was a state level seminar which i was asked to attend
, so i can get some clues about writing a research paper. So i agreed and attended,
and I got an opportunity to meet many school teachers from primary and
secopundry schools presented their research which was more on Teaching and
learning.
The state
level Coloquim was organized by Ministry
of education and those main people are
the Ipoh Teachers training college
Teaching staff. The particivpants are all over from Malaysia, from
teacher traing collges , universities and school teachers. Here at this seminar
I met a lecturer who has been lecturing in one of the college in Sabah and I got
his friendship which helped me to join his team in the expedition organized by
the Education Ministry and this teacher traning College.
Before this
expedition, I joined my sister and few family members in year 2012 and conqured
mount Kinabalu for the first time. The second chance was in year 2014 with
lecturers and students team. The second one was a really challenging one due to
the distance which is extra 2 kilo meters and the path was full of rocks , and stones and no stairs or
fine path for the climbers and hikers. The second one was really a tiring one
and we were all worn out and reached very late at Raban Lata. It was almost 7pm and it was very dark.
During my
second visit the path was different and our starting point was at Mersilau, which
is the other part of Mount Kinabalu that is very far from the main entrance.
The most
challenging expedition, which I ever come across. We walked on pebbles and
rocks and we were so tired and couldn’t move at all.I rested at almost every 10
steps took short nap of 5 minits and then start walking.
It was
raining and raining and we walked in the rain at eve nearing the peak. Many of
the climbers could walk and they had breathing problem, I teach them the
breathing exercise and ask them to rest and then to continue their walk in the
dark. We were almost reaching the peak after crossing the final gate and it was
only around 5 to 6 meters to reach the peak and it started raining heavily, the
air was chilling like ice and we were wet,the
rain water flow like waterfall. Every where it was dark because it was around 5
am, the sun could not be seen even at 6 am, due to the heavy rain.
We waited
until the rain stop and started to get down as slowly as we can because the
rocks were very slippery and we can fall
very easily. After reaching Raban Lata and having lunch at 9am , we started our
journey of moving down from the mountain after photography session. On the way
we all were singing olden goldies and shared jokes.arond 3 pm we reach at teh
entrance of the gate and out team members were all there waiting for the bus,
after getting down at Ranau, we travelled in a van which took us to the hostel
at the resort.
That night was the final night at the foot hill of Mount Kinabalu.
We were treated dinner and were given certificates. The next morning we
departed from the hostel and headed to
Kota kinabalu all moved to their homes the same day, my self and Zalia put up
one night in Kota Kinabalu town and surveyed its beauty at night and went to
the sea food food court which prepares the very delicious and fresh sea food.
The next day after is my flight to KL and Zalia
was heading to Trengganu. I had pleasant
time with zalia and it was a nostalgic
moment fopr both of us to be away. Two strangers meeting and becoming friends
and moving away, that something really touching.
