Expedition To Tioman Island
For the first time, I was away from home on this special day in 2006.It's because , I believe that opportunity knocks on our door only once and if I missed it, I' m sure I won't get another chance. I was very happy to be selected for the Tioman expedition which has been my long time dream to explore the Island.
The package was fully sponsored by the University’s students Association (BEDSA).Twenty of us were selected for that expedition, 10 girls and 10 guys accompanied by 2 commandos who were our Instructors. It was a five days package.
On 14 th April we were in Tioman Island. Tioman is an isolated Island which has number of little Islands in its list. Snorkeling, scuba diving, canoeing, deep-sea swimming and deep sea fishing are considered main activities here and not to least out Orienteering and Abseiling.
This expedition has given me an opportunity to observe and enjoy the nature’s gift which has not been exploited by the modern world and the beauty of corals and the fishes difficult to explain. I am very happy and thank God each and every moment for given me that opportunity to enjoy and explore the beauty of the Island and its surroundings.
For the first time in my life I got the opportunity to catch deep sea fish and to taste it!!That’s the most delicious and freshest fish I had ever tasted in my life. Earlier I had been in water to my waist line only but during this expedition, we were taken to deep sea swimming with our life jackets on.
In the beginning I panicked. But with the instructors and my peers’ guidance I manage to overcome the phobia of being in the deep sea.
These activities taught us teamwork and made every task easy for us. I swam as fish with my life jacket on and enjoyed the beauty of the ocean and its gift during snorkeling activity.
I realized how kind God has been by creating such beautiful world beneath the sea. It was so colorful and not polluted at all. Various types of fishes and sea creatures were seen moving there , an amazing site to watch and enjoy, It was an exhilarating experience.
The fresh sea breeze and the cool weather with the white soft sandy beaches, is a paradise for those who wish to run away from the hustle and bustle of the city life.
One need to experienced it and its not the same, as someone telling about it. My dream of 20 years came reality, during my university days. If given another opportunity I would not hesitate to go on another Expedition.
