The Enriching Experience with the hearts and souls of Uni
Pursuing Tertiary education at the age when the kids have grown, has given me enriching exposure and experience which has made me think why some human beings have been so cruel and rude. But at the same time I met many soul touching hearts, who have been angels and counselors. These good Samaritans, are too good to me until I was shedding tears when I thought of their kindness when I was alone in my room.
Many moments I wondered why those, who were in the same group of mine behaved very strangely and treated me badly and humiliated me many times. That was a good opportunity God has given me to study and learn about human behavior. The individuals who have treated me kindly and accepted me as one of them are the higher authority, I mean The dean of the faculty, The coordinator, the admin staff, my lecturers, professors and my foreign friends.
The main reason why, I was treated badly was due to my nature. Where I'm a humble and very simple individual , who speaks softly and never revealed about my family and about my caring siblings.
I want to be in a world where I expect everyone to accept me as I am. But I was wrong, I was treated and humiliated for no reasons for being my self and It was a very painful experience.
I was raised in a loving and simple environment where, we were taught to treat respectfully everyone. I was very happy being a student of The International University. I was very active in academic as well as in co curricular activities. Besides that , I attended the annual gatherings of the international students , where these students organized intercultural dialogue sessions almost twice a year.
Dr.Bogdan Polanski from Poland who has made Malaysia his home is the moderator, and he controlled the session very interestingly. He is a joker by nature and a jovial person.I was excited to hear the foreign students view about the customs and culture, they observed among the Malaysian family members. These students said that they practised some of the customs at their place when they went back for holidays and the family members asked them to explain about those customs. One of the custom is, when an adult sits and a younger person passed him, the younger person walked by bending the body and stretching the arm in respect.
Few students who were kids of mix marriages were there and shared their experience of living in two cultures, where their parents are both from different countries and ethnic. The dialogue session was very interesting and one of the university lecturer who married a lady from different background of parents. This lecturer brought his wife whose father is a Malaysian Chinese Muslim and her mother is an Egyptian. She was an exstudent of the university and he met her during her study years.
They brought their two kids who were very active, jumping from a high stage to the floor. They had the moroccon look like their father. The session's peak hour was two presentation's from the foreign students. the message conveyed in the plays was that the children from mix marriages choose someone different from their mother and father.
Another event organized by the foreign students which attracted me towards them was the intercultural week. For one whole week, not less than students from fifty or more nations participated by displaying their culture and customs in their own corners. The peak hours of the event is at night, where all the international students gathered and had performances such as cultural dances, marshal arts food, clothes, souvenirs, handicrafts, beads and posters all exhibited.
Thats the moment I met many foreign friends who became my good friends. The most remembered friends are Houden from Somalia, Fatimah from Chad, Yassin from Syria, Rahat Ali Khan from Thailand,Farzath from SriLanka, Ali and Abdul Jalil from Nigeria. Ameera from Sudan and Kalam from Bangladesh. These foreign students are not from ordinary families. Their fathers are the Governers, Presidents, Diplomats,Prime ministers advisers and rich merchants. These students are damn good. They were very good friends of mine despite the age gap.
The youngest friend and the most popular guy in the university is Rahat Ali Khan. He was only eighteen years old when he was in first year of Law programme. Other than Rahat, one of my professor introduced me to a lecturer from Dacca university who was Pursuing Doctorate in the same University.
Her name is Thashin Choudry. She told me about her village life style and how sugar was made from the sap of date trees. I was surprised to hear her sharing about "her world' I mean about her country, everything was home made, from making palm sugar and getting the grains, everything was home grown. I was amazed by her story. She was very friendly and I was very comfortable talking to her.
The most talented student who won the hearts of the ladies and guys in the university. He was always surrounded by his class mates. Even on weekends he spend time with his Malaysian Malay friends.
Another foreign friend who was my good friend is Shanon Fernie from Victoria university, New South Wales. Shanon, in the beginning told me she was very happy to know me. According to her whenever she asked anyone around the hostel, there was only a response of 'yes' or 'no' or nodding the head. She told me she could not converse with any of the local girls and boys freely, due to language problem.
After few days she managed to find her friends at the law faculty, later the law students became her friends. she was here for one semester as an external student. She was with me for new year celebration. I introduced her to my kids and teenage family members and she moved very freely with them. she was so happy to spend new Year with my family members.
